Located in the centre of the Square of the Republic (in front of the Church of St. John the Baptist and the Town Hall of Tomar), it’s risen the statue of D. Gualdim Pais, Master of the Knights of the Temple.

It was inaugurated on the 9th of July of 1940. Dr. Vieira Guimarães took the initiative of raising a statue in homage to the founder of Tomar in 1885, for occasion of the 7º centenarian of the death of D. Gualdim Pais.

Forty five years later and thanks to a public subscript, the monument was inaugurated with pomp and circumstance.
