Photo yielded by the Buildings and National Monuments General Department

The 1st charter of the village of Tomar - June of 1174, relates already to the existence of presses and mills.

Later, Infant D. Enrique regularized the course of the Nabão River during 15th century, improving and draining its edges and widened the mills and presses. These presses had been later extended by D. Manuel I, that's where the name Presses of the King cames from, which is still in use today. Until a few years ago, workshops of metal workers, casting and milling, were in this presses in Levada (Everard Street).
